Matjaž Debeljak is a piccolist and flutist in the orchestra of the SNT Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana. He graduated in 1994 from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana by Prof. Fedja Rupel. In 2010 he post graduated with the same professor.
He has appeared as a piccolo soloist at international flute festivals and concerts: Slovenian Flute Festival, Zagorje ob Savi, SLOVENIA (1996, 2004, 2006, 2022), Ljubljana, SLOVENIA (2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009), Belgrade, SERBIA (2004, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2021), British Flute Society Convention, Manchester, UK (2008, 2012), Flutewise, London, UK (2009), Split, CROATIA (2010), NFA, Charlotte, USA (2011), European Piccolo Festival, Jezersko, SLOVENIA (2011, 2013), Iowa City, USA (2012), Riez, FRANCE (2012), San Jose, COSTA RICA (2013), Niš, SERBIA (2013), Grado, ITALY (2014, 2015, 2018), Roccasecca, ITALY (2014), Zagreb/Dugo Selo, CROATIA (2021). In July 2009 Sir James Galway invited him to play piccolo recital at his Festival in Weggis, SWITZERLAND.
He holds masterclasses for piccolo. He recorded two CD’s.He also records for Radio Slovenia. Slovenian composers have written twenty compositions for piccolo and dedicated to him. He plays with welknown piccolo artists like Nicola Mazzanti, Jean-Louis Beaumadier, Lior Eitan, Christine Beard, Nicole Esposito, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Trond Brekka, Gabriel Goni, Milica Milojević Bogdanović and others.
